How to properly take care of your wedding band?
The general rule of thumb when cleaning a wedding band is to simply rinse it with warm water and clean it with a dish soap but make sure that there are no corrosive chemicals in the dish soap that you are using. This works for almost all kinds of wedding bands but there are a few exceptions. If you have a ring that has not been cleaned for some time and is proving difficult to clean you can use a toothbrush to reach all the joints and the nooks that have dirt in them. Make sure to use a toothbrush that has soft bristles. Also keep in mind that it is not recommended to soak your wedding band in water. After you are done cleaning dry it thoroughly to ensure that it does not suffer from water damage. When you are done cleaning your wedding band, you can polish it with a small piece of soft cloth. There are jewelry soft cloths available as well. And that is it now you have a wedding band that looks good as new.
Material specific instructions
Warm water and mild dish soap are going to do the basic cleaning of your ring. If you want to clean your ring in a professional manner, then you need to follow instructions that are specific to the material that your ring is made out of. One shoe does not fit all sizes, same is the case with cleaning different materials. You do not want to clean a titanium ring with a cleaner that is made for gold rings. You can end up damaging you ring. In some cases, this damage can even be irreversible and lead to your ring being deformed permanently. Here is how you can properly clean your rings based on the material that they are made out of:
1- Wood – Although most good quality wooden wedding rings that you will find on the market are sealed to protect them from water damage but still if constantly exposed to water they can deteriorate over time. It is important to make sure that you take off your ring whenever you are going to do something that will submerge it in water. Taking a shower and swimming are two examples that come to mind. Another situation where you should be cautious is when you are lifting something that is made out of metal. The pressure it is going to put on your ring is going to damage it. Using strong chemicals to clean your wooden ring is also not recommended. So, the best way to take care of your wooden ring is to simply clean it with dish soap and warm water.
2- Titanium – If we are being honest then this is probably the best material to consider when choosing a ring. Titanium rings are the strongest rings in the market, and they are a great choice if you want something that is low maintenance and will last you a while. Despite being so robust it is surprisingly comfortable and lightweight. Another selling point for a titanium ring is that it is tarnish and corrosion resistant. You can submerge it in water without any sort of worries. The only maintenance that a titanium ring is going to need is polishing to retain its shine. In order to do this, you are going to need Windex, just one small spray of it and shine it with a soft cloth. Titanium is one of the strongest materials on earth so you don’t have to worry about cracks in your ring but there can be scratches on it over time.
3- Damascus Steel – It is by no means a secret; how rugged and strong steel is. The beautifully patterned Damascus steel is well known for its resilience and durability. Damascus steel rings are made from stainless steel which means that it will not corrode or tarnish at all. There is one thing that you need to be mindful of however, Chlorine can cause serious damage to Damascus Steel rings. So, avoid contact with Chlorine at all costs. When you go swimming in a pool make sure to take off your ring. There is no need for any sort of intricate maintenance when it comes to Damascus steel rings. Mild dish soap with warm water works just fine. Some people also use a soft bristled toothbrush and toothpaste to clean it that also works.
4- Tungsten – Tungsten rings are a top 3 choice for us when it comes to gents’ rings. The custom men rings that are made out of tungsten and tungsten carbide are some of the most durable rings that you will find on the rings for him market. They have a great weight feel to them and can last quite a while. They do not tarnish, scratch, oxidize, rust or fade. Which means that maintaining them is super easy and cleaning them is a hassle-free job. There are a few things that you need to be careful about though. You need to keep your tungsten ring away from harsh chemicals and make sure that you don’t drop them on a hard surface. Harsh chemicals can cause permanent damage to your ring and dropping them of hard surfaces can crack them. Apart from these two things, tungsten carbide rings are the superheroes of men’s custom ring market.
5- Gold – Gold rings are very popular as wedding bands. Gold is without a doubt the most beloved metal on the face of the earth and for good reason it gives off a shine unlike any other metal and can be moulded into almost all shapes and designs. There are few problems with gold however since it is soft it can be deformed easily, and it does require quite a bit of maintenance. Beauty comes at a price, we guess. When cleaning a gold ring it is okay to let it soak for a while unlike other materials. You can let it soak in soapy water for 20-30 minutes if you want to get rid of any kind of buildup of dirt. It is best to have a gold ring professionally cleaned however because it is easy to damage and deform gold.
6- Black Zirconium – If you ae looking for ring that has a badass color and is low maintenance as well then this is the perfect choice for you. It is an extremely durable ring that is treated with high heat during the production process. This material has really taken off in the world of men’s custom rings in the recent years and for good reason too. It looks great. When it comes to maintenance of this material there are few things that you need to keep in mind. You need to avoid contact with jagged metals since they can cause scratches on it. Other than that, this is one of those rare materials that can even withstand contact with harsh chemicals without deteriorating. You can even clean it with harsh chemicals without any sort of worry.
